March 10: The Kid (Charlie Chaplin, 1921). Charlie Chaplin and Jackie Coogan, photographed by Steichen on the film's set, play Charlie the Tramp and the abandoned child he protects against a cruel city. Live piano accompaniment by Ethan Uslan, two-time winner of the World Championship Old-Time Piano Playing Contest.
March 17 Morocco (Josef von Sternberg, 1930) features Star Power icon Marlene Dietrich as a cabaret singer in a doomed love affair with legionnaire Gary Cooper.
March 24 Top Hat (Mark Sandrich, 1935). Models of refined elegance Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers are brought "Cheek to Cheek" by the music of Irving Berlin and a zany plot of mistaken identity.
March 31 Camille (George Cukor, 1936). Star Power luminary Greta Garbo is equally glamorous when breaking hearts as a Parisian courtesan or suffering her own heartbreak by a tormented love and the ravages of tuberculosis. |
