Contemplating Virtues
|
| Date: |
Tuesday, December 4, 2012 |
| Time: |
5:00 PM - 6:30 PM |
| Location: |
Room B316, Tribble Hall |
| Description: |
Robert C. Roberts, Distinguished Professor of Ethics at Baylor University, will speak. "The sub-disciplines of virtue ethics and moral psychology try to understand virtues and vices. The pursuit of such understanding can itself be understood in various ways, as an enterprise in ethical theory, as an effort to explain morality psychologically, as an investigation into the extent of actual virtue in society, as an essentially ethical exercise integral to moral maturation, and perhaps in other ways. This talk is an effort to clarify the last of these approaches: the contemplation of virtues as an ethical activity that is an aspect of practical wisdom and an exercise in developing it."
