| Description: |
Bruce Caldwell, author of Hayek's Challenge: An Intellectual Biography of F.A. Hayek (University of Chicago Press, 2004), will examine the life and intellectual legacy of Friedrich Hayek, the author of The Road to Serfdom (1940-43) who was one of twentieth century's strongest critics of government "solutions" to economic problems. Hayek argued that government usually doesn't have the necessary knowledge to effectively intervene in the economy, and the political process is such that ever-growing intervention usually makes things worse.
