Post Docs and Teaching Assistants New Instructors Series: Writing a Teaching Philosophy, Part 1

Event details

Date: Thursday, October 18, 2012
Time: 3:30 PM - 4:45 PM
Location: Room 301, Reynolda Hall
Description: The Teaching and Learning Center's New Instructor Workshops are specifically designed to target the needs of post docs and teaching assistants on both the Reynolda and Bowman Gray Campuses.
Prior to the meeting, all participants will be sent a link to the Teaching Perspectives Inventory quiz. Each participant will complete the quiz and print out their results to bring to the workshop. We start with a brief discussion of the results of our quizzes, and how to use these five perspectives to talk about our teaching beliefs. Then, using a rubric developed at the University of Michigan, participants will read and evaluate sample teaching statements. We will discuss the format and style expectations, and each participant will write and receive feedback on their opening paragraph.
