Anthony Atala, Professor and Chair, Department of Urology, WFU School of Medicine, and Director, WFU Institute for Regenerative Medicine, is an internationally renowned expert in stem cell research and the culture of human tissues and organs. His work focuses on growing tissues and body parts to repair those that are defective at birth or destroyed by disease. He pioneered the growth and implantation of the first functioning human organ produced in vitro.


Robert Full, Chancellor’s Professor and Goldman Professor of Integrative Biology, UC Berkeley, is a founder of the discipline of Biomechanics that applies principles of engineering to the study of biological systems, His laboratory at Berkeley, “Poly-Pedal”, focuses on locomotion, adhesion, and the mimicry of animals in the development of animation, robots and robotics. He has received numerous awards and honors both for research and innovative teaching.


Andrew Berry, Research Associate, Museum of Comparative, Zoology, and lecturer on evolution and the history of biology, Harvard University, has done field studies on giant rats in New Guinea, aphids in Taiwan, bats in Nepal, wrens on the Faeroe Islands, mice on the Orkney Islands, and butterflies in Borneo. He has published books on Alfred Russell Wallace and, with James Watson, on DNA to honor the 50th anniversary of The Double Helix. During this Darwin Bicentennial Year, he has lectured widely on Darwin and his rather famous theory.
