The Position Wake Forest University’s Department of Biology seeks to hire an ECOLOGIST working at landscape to global scales on issues related to global change as broadly defined. Research: We are considering a broad variety of research areas including, but not limited to patch dynamics and landscape ecology; biogeography, species distribution modeling, paleoecology and ecosystem and global change ecology. We are particularly interested in candidates that combine field studies with innovative modeling and statistical techniques. The Ecology and Evolution Group has been awarded over $4.5M in external funding over the past three years. Research programs that complement or supplement existing strengths in the Ecology and Evolution Group will be preferred. The person selected for this position will also have the opportunity to help develop Wake Forest's Center for the Environment, a newly initiated project with strong support from the University. Teaching: In addition to research, we seek a colleague with potential for excellence in combining his or her research with teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students (M.Sc. and Ph.D.) in keeping with WFU’s Teacher-Scholar ideal. The department has an active and productive graduate and undergraduate student research program both nationally and internationally. Teaching duties will include an undergraduate lecture course in ecology, a lecture course in advanced statistics or spatial analysis, and a graduate seminar in the candidate's area of interest. A typical annual teaching load would be an undergraduate lecture course in ecology one semester, and then an upper-level undergraduate/graduate course and participation in a graduate-level seminar the following semester. Application via e-mail (davisch@wfu.edu) is preferred, with cover letter, curriculum vitae, and research and teaching statements submitted as a single PDF file; up to three (PDF) reprints; and three letters of reference (e-mail plus hard copy) addressed to: Dr. Miles Silman, Ecology Search, Department of Biology, Wake Forest University,1834 Wake Forest Rd., Winston-Salem, NC, 27106.
