2001 - 2002 Exhibition Schedule

"Jewels in Our Crown: Treasures from the WFU Art Collection"

This exhibition celebrates the 60th anniversary of the WFU Art Collection.
Artists in the exhibition include Jasper Johns, Alex Katz, Milton Avery,
John Singer Sargent, Rembrandt, Cezanne and Picasso.
Opening Reception Friday, Sept. 21st, 7 - 9pm

New Acquisitions and Selections from the Student Union Collection
New acquisitions from the Student Union Collection are included with works
displayed in the upstairs gallery.

Since 1963, the WFU students have purchased works for the Student Union Collection
every four years during a buying trip to NYC. Works from the 2001 trip
include Fred Tomaselli, Robert Lazarini, Luis Mallo, Phil Frost, Do-Ho-Sah,
Shazia Sikander, Christopher Chiappa and Julie Moos.

North Carolina Artist Fellowship Exhibition
Curated by Linda Daugherty.
An exhibition of twenty-one film, video and visual artists awarded 2000-2001
Visual Artist Fellowships by the North Carolina Arts Council.
Exhibition catalogue (the catalog is large, downloading may take a few moments).
Visiting artist lectures to be arranged.
Funded by a grant from the N.C. Arts Council

Opening Reception: Sunday Oct. 28, 3 - 5pm

Portraits and Figures:
Selections from Neuve Invention, Collection de l'Art Brut
Features over fifty works on paper dating from 1955 to the present,
including drawings, paintings and collages by 18 artists from Europe and the United States.
These works are part of the Neuve Invention Collection,
established by French artist Jean Dubuffet (1901-1985) .
The exhibition was organized by Tom Stanley, director of the Winthrop University Galleries.

Opening Reception: Thursday, Feb. 7th, 3 - 5pm

Paintings by Nancy Mladenoff. Mladenoff teaches painting at the
University of Wisconsin, Madison.

AIDS Memorial Quilt
Tuesday, March 26 - Sunday, March 31, 2002
The Gay-Straight Student Alliance is excited to bring
AIDS Memorial Quilt to Wake Forest University.
An opening reception will be held in the theater lobby
in the Scales Fine Arts Center on Wednesday,
March 27, 2002 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
The reception is open to the public
and will feature a reading of names
from the panels featured in our display
and a choral concert provided by the
Triad Gay Men's Chorus.
Free refreshments will be provided.
