Alex Lamballe (at right in above photo) and teammate Seth Gannon concluded a history making debate career in April when they finished second at the National Debate Tournament, a year after winning the national championship.


Tell us about yourself.

I'm a huge sports fan — especially Braves baseball.

What are your plans after graduation?

Coaching debate at Harvard.

How have you grown during the last four years?

My time with the Wake debate team has really made me appreciate the value of dedication and teamwork. Every member's contribution is important. The team has been like a second family, and I can't imagine a more intellectually enriching use of my time.

Why did you choose Wake Forest?

I chose Wake Forest for the historically strong debate team and the strong academic experience. In my four years, the Deacs were in the final round of the National Debate Tournament three times. Needless to say, I'm extremely satisfied with my college choice.

What was your favorite class?

I enjoyed Politics of the Arab-Israeli Conflict. It was an incredibly insightful look into one of the world's most complex problems.

Who has influenced you most?

Allan Louden and Ross Smith — Two of the greatest coaches and friends on the planet.

What's your favorite memory of the last four years?

Winning the National Debate Tournament for Wake Forest in 2008.

What will you miss most about Wake Forest?

The teachers and intimate class environment.

Words of advice for incoming freshmen…

Get involved. Wake Forest offers a ton of opportunities for those willing to take advantage of them.
