"Jumping the Sun: Creating Competitive Advantage in an Increasingly Flat World" panel discussion to be held April 10
To address what American business and higher education must do to remain competitive in today's rapidly changing global marketplace, Wake Forest will host a panel discussion moderated by Emmy Award-winning journalist Charlie Rose at 4 p.m. April 10. The event, "Jumping the Sun: Creating Competitive Advantage in an Increasingly Flat World," will be introduced by Senator Richard Burr '78 of NC and will include Wake Forest MBA alumni panelists: Charles Ergen MBA '76, founder, chairman and CEO of EchoStar Communications/DISH Network; John Medica MBA '83, former senior vice president of the consumer product group at Dell Inc.; Ken Thompson MBA '76, president and CEO of Wachovia Corporation; and Eric Wiseman '77, MBA '88, president and chief operating officer of VF Corporation. Ed Christman receives Medallion of Merit; essay on the "Ed"ucation provided by Ed Wilson and Ed Christman
Former chaplain Ed Christman '50, JD '53 was awarded the Medallion of Merit as part of Founders' Day Convocation February 22. The Medallion of Merit is the University's highest award for service to Wake Forest. Clay Hipp, senior lecturer in the Calloway School, has written a tribute on the "Ed"ucation at Wake Forest provided by provost emeritus Ed Wilson '43 and Ed Christman. Commencement registration available online
David Brooks, a columnist for The New York Times will deliver the commencement address on May 21. The Rev. J. Bryan Hehir, a Catholic priest and the Parker Gilbert Montgomery Professor of the Practice of Religion and Public Life at Harvard University, will deliver the baccalaureate address on May 20. New joint Divinity/Counseling degree created
To prepare ministers who are often asked to respond to the mental, emotional and spiritual needs of church and community members, Wake Forest has established a new dual degree program. The Wake Forest Divinity School and the department of counseling will offer a Master of Divinity and Master of Arts in Counseling dual degree program beginning in the fall of 2007. Details | Top

Back to the Farm Community Day March 25 at Reynolda House
Back to the Farm Community Day at Reynolda House will be held Sunday, March 25 from 2-4 p.m. Admission is FREE. Over the river and through the woods to Grandma Moses' house we go! This spring's festival will include old-time music, hay rides, and home-style refreshments. Art activities will include paper quilt squares, handmade toys, farm collages, and a group tapestry. Alumni Admissions Forum scheduled for June 15
The 15th annual Alumni Admissions Forum will be held on Friday, June 15 on campus. This forum educates and informs alumni and their college bound children about the admissions process to selective colleges and universities. The forum is open to all high school students but is particularly appropriate for rising high school sophomores and juniors. The day is a blend of general information as well as Wake Forest specific information, which is provided via the optional session in the morning, and a campus tour in the afternoon. Babcock School: Student competitions bring world-class MBA talent to campus
Annual student competitions in February and March continue to bring some of the world's best business school students to campus. Top MBA marketing students competed in the 17th annual Marketing Summit, held February 8-11. Students from Cal-Berkeley, Dartmouth, Hong Kong, Indiana, Michigan State, Virginia, Washington and Wake Forest competed to develop a marketing strategy for event sponsor Motorola. Babcock's Elevator Competition, set for March 30-31, will feature some of the nation's brightest entrepreneurial MBA students pitching business plans to a venture capitalist during an elevator ride. Calloway School: Accounting team wins national championship
A team of five students from the Calloway School of Business and Accountancy won the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) 4th Annual National xTREME Accounting (xACT) Case Competition in New York City on January 18-19. The competition is an annual event that tests students' accounting and auditing skills. More than 2,000 students from 45 of the top accounting programs in the nation competed this year. Details | Top
Divinity School: Scholarship and gift annuity celebrate a life given to religious education
When Carlton Mitchell '43 retired after 33 years as a professor of religion at Wake Forest, his family knew exactly how to honor him. He and his late wife Miriam had spent their lives at Wake Forest and wanted to leave a legacy for the education of future ministers. They made an initial gift to establish the Dr. Carlton Mitchell and Miriam Mitchell Scholarship Fund to benefit students in the Divinity School. Recently, Dr. Mitchell established a charitable gift annuity that will eventually be added to the scholarship. Details | Top

One of the great ways alumni can help their alma mater is by hiring the school's students and graduates. The Law School's Office of Career Services offers a variety of recruiting options to connect employers with Wake Law students, recent graduates and/or alumni. You can interview on campus, post a basic job listing, attend a job fair or have the office collect resumes and send them to you in one batch. Registration is now open for many of the on- and off-campus interview programs taking place this summer and fall. Medical School: Obesity drug helps unlock clues about cancer
An approved drug for fighting obesity is helping scientists at the School of Medicine uncover clues about how to stop the growth of cancerous tumors. "Our discovery makes an exciting treatment target because theoretically you don't have to worry about harming nearby healthy tissue," said senior researcher Steven J. Kridel, Ph.D., an assistant professor in the Department of Cancer Biology. Details | Top

Spring sports schedule
- Wake Forest University and Lawrence Joel Coliseum are co-hosting round one and two of the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship March 15 and 17. Eight teams from around the country begin their march toward a national championship in Winston-Salem.
- The Demon Deacon men's basketball team begins play in the ACC Tournament on Thursday, March 8 in Tampa. Wake Forest, the #11 seed, will play the #6 seed, Georgia Tech, at 9:20 p.m. The entire tournament is broadcast on the ISP/Wake Forest Radio Network.
- The Wake Forest baseball team has an exhausting 21 games in March, including three-game home series with Virginia (March 9-11) and NC State (March 23-25).
- The nationally-ranked women's tennis team has home matches with NC State (March 16), Furman (March 17), William & Mary (March 21) and Boston College (March 31). The nationally-ranked men's tennis team has home matches against Virginia Tech (March 23), Virginia (March 25) and North Carolina (March 28).
- The men's and women's track teams will host a huge event, the Wake Forest Open, March 22-24 at Kentner Stadium.
