Lorna Moore named dean of the Graduate School
Lorna Grindlay Moore has been appointed dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. She is professor of anthropology and professor of health and behavioral sciences at the University of Colorado at Denver and Health Sciences Center. She has also been appointed professor of public health sciences at the Wake Forest School of Medicine and professor of anthropology on the Reynolda Campus. Details | Top

Provost's office announces appointments
Three faculty members have been named associate provosts. Physics professor and department chair Rick Matthews will serve as associate provost, focusing on strategic planning and faculty issues such as promotion and tenure. Kahle Family Associate Professor of History Michele Gillespie will become associate provost for academic initiatives. Kemper Professor of Business L. Kline Harrison will become associate provost for international affairs. Details | Top

Seventh Fulbright scholar named
David Willis ('07) has won a Fulbright Scholarship for 2007-2008 to teach English in Argentina. Willis is among seven Wake Forest University graduates to earn one of the prestigious scholarships this year. Established in 1946, the Fulbright Program is an international education exchange program sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State. Details | Top

Z. Smith Reynolds Library associate director announced
Wanda Brown has been appointed associate director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Library. Brown was formerly head of technical and access services. She is currently chair of the finance committee and chair-elect of the Library Administration and Management Section of the North Carolina Library Association, and president of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association. ACADEMICS

Toddlers learn more from adults than Teletubbies
Toddlers learn their first words better from people than from Teletubbies, according to new research published in the June 21 issue of Media Psychology. Children younger than 22 months may be entertained, but they do not learn words from the television program, said Marina Krcmar, associate professor of communication at Wake Forest and author of the study. Eastern Music Festival at Reynolda House July 15 and 22
The Eastern Music Festival returns to Reynolda House July 15 and 22 at 3 p.m. for its second series in the Babcock Auditorium. This will be the 46th season for the nationally recognized festival offering innovative programming and a famous summer training institute. The Reynolda concerts will feature music faculty and students from all over the United States and the world in solo and chamber performances. Admission is $16, Members/students $13 Details | Top

Babcock School: Students gain global experience through international tours
Nearly one-quarter of all MBA students traveled this year as part of the school’s annual international summer study tours to China/Hong Kong, India, Central Europe, Japan and Latin America. The trips include company visits, meetings with business and government leaders, and tours of cultural and historical sites. The experiences help students understand the cultural and professional nuances of international business. Details | Top

Divinity School: Bill Leonard's address to Divinity School graduates
Dean Bill J. Leonard addressed the graduates of the Divinity School: "It is probably important to acknowledge that some folks - out there - don't think religion is much help at all. You need to know that, I think, 'as you are going.' In fact, these brief remarks are a reminder that as you go, I hope you keep reading, keep confronting and responding to the uncomfortable ideas and issues around us." Details | Top

Law School: Dean Morant announces new administrative roles in the law school

Medical School: Health Matters radio program on 88.5 WFDD
Health Matters, featured every Monday at 6 p.m. and Friday at 1 p.m. on WFDD-FM (88.5), features local, national and international experts commenting on medical issues with major implications for both individual patients and social policy decision-makers—from childhood obesity to stem cells. Wake Forest finishes 23rd in Director's Cup standings
Wake Forest earned its highest finish ever with 23rd place in the U.S. Sports Academy Director's Cup standings. The Director's Cup is presented annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), United States Sports Academy and USA Today to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the country. Wake Forest's previous best finish was 32nd in 2002-03. Details | Top
