Capital campaign reaches historic goal
On June 27th, three days before the official close of The Campaign for Wake Forest: Honoring the Promise, the campaign surpassed the $400 million goal for the Reynolda campus! The Reynolda campus total as of June 27 was reported at $401.7 million and the overall campaign, which includes the Bowman Gray campus, was reported at $687.6 million on that date. Wake Forest named to CIO 100
Wake Forest has been named a recipient of the 2006 CIO 100 Award by CIO magazine. The annual award program recognizes organizations around the world for operational and strategic excellence in information technology. Wake Forest was recognized for its overall vision of an "integrated digital campus," including the implementation of its high-speed wireless network, mobile computing pilot programs and continued development of technology student programs. Student receives United States Congressional Award Gold Medal
Jessica Hayes ('08) was named a 2006 recipient of the United States Congressional Award Gold Medal. This is the highest award that the United States Congress gives to youth for community service, initiative and achievement. The Congressional Award began as a bipartisan effort in both Houses of Congress. It was signed into law by President Jimmy Carter in 1979 and has received Presidential and Congressional endorsement since that time. | Top

Wake Forest to host new program for U.S. and European youth
This summer, Wake Forest will be the first university in the nation to host a new, U.S. Department of State-sponsored program aimed at strengthening U.S.-European relations by building bridges between youth from the United States and 32 European and Eurasian countries.
The "Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows Initiative: Summer Institute for Youth" (BFTFI) is the first youth-oriented program funded by the U.S. Department of State to focus exclusively on U.S.-European relations. Details | Top
Teachers and technology: what parents should know
The more parents know about the technology available to teachers, the better they can help their children make the most of it, according to Ann Cunningham, associate professor of education at Wake Forest. "Technology helps improve communication between teachers and families (through) e-mail, Web sites, newsletters and postcards," Cunningham said. "These techniques save hours of valuable teacher time and make communication with the home easy to do with a higher frequency." Details | Top

Eastern Music Festival's "Mozart & Friends" Series at Reynolda House
The Eastern Music Festival presents a series of three concerts at Reynolda House Museum of American Art featuring the Eastern Chamber Players in an eclectic mix of chamber music and pieces by Mozart titled "Mozart & Friends." Initial Lifelong Learning program a success!
On June 15-16, 30 alumni, parents, and friends of Wake Forest participated in the initial Lifelong Learning course offered by the Alumni Association. "Signs of the Times: Contemporary American Religion in Historical Perspective" was taught by Bill Leonard, dean of the Divinity School, and covered topics such as "postmodern" religion, megachurches and the ministry of Joel Osteen, snake handlers and more. The Alumni Association will offer more Lifelong Learning programs in summer 2007. Kahle Associate Professor of History Michele Gillespie will teach a course on the history of the South June 28-29, 2007. Babcock School: It’s All About Business attracts diverse group of undergraduates
Thirty rising seniors from 18 colleges visited campus for the fourth annual It’s All About Business, a three-week program offered jointly by the Babcock and Calloway schools. The program teaches liberal arts, science and engineering students from underrepresented groups about entrepreneurship, finance, information technology, marketing and other functional areas to better understand business structure and decision making. Medical School: 11% of budget is for community benefits
Nearly 11 percent of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center’s budget is dedicated to community benefits, according to a recent report. A total of $147.2 million of the $1.348 billion combined budgets of Wake Forest University Health Sciences and N.C. Baptist Hospital are spent on a range of community medical care, training, education and outreach. Details | Top

Athletics: Five Deacons Garner Preseason All-America Honors from Street & Smith's
Five Wake Forest football players were named to Street & Smith's preseason All-America teams. Senior offensive tackle Steve Vallos was a third team selection and a first team preseason All-ACC pick. Junior linebacker Jon Abbate, senior safety Josh Gattis, junior defensive end Matt Robinson and sophomore placekicker Sam Swank earned All-America honorable mentions.
