WFU students participate in Freedom Summer 2004 internships
For more than two months this summer, ten Wake Forest University students from diverse cultural and racial backgrounds will participate in an internship program designed to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original 1964 Freedom Summer and to renew an interest in the unfinished work of the civil rights movement in the South. Students will work on projects on education reform, economic justice, neighborhood development, health care access, organizational development, immigrant rights, and voter rights and education. Professor suggests ways to prevent overscheduling kids
The time to prevent overscheduling kids is the start of the school year, says Sam Gladding (’67, MAEd ’71), associate provost and chair of the counseling department. “Don’t wait until family members have signed up for more clubs, athletic teams, and other activities than they can handle,” says Gladding, author of “Family Therapy: History, Theory, and Practice” and president of the American Counseling Association. The Calloway School of Business and Accountancy: New marketing professor joins faculty
Michelle Steward will be joining the Calloway School faculty this fall as an assistant professor of marketing. Michelle is completing her Ph.D. at Arizona State University, where she has twice received the Doctoral Student Teaching Excellence Award. Her research interests are in the areas of account management and buyer-seller relationships in business markets. She will be teaching Principles of Marketing and Global Marketing Strategy in the Calloway School. Top

Ground was recently broken for Biotechnology Research Facility 1, Wake Forest’s first major enhancement of its downtown campus in the Piedmont Triad Research Park. Rick Rembielak named head baseball coach
Rick Rembielak, the all-time winningest coach of any sport in Kent State University history, has been named head baseball coach at Wake Forest. “Rick has all the characteristics that were important for us in the search for our new head baseball coach,” said Athletic Director Ron Wellman. “He has been a head coach for many years and been tremendously successful in that position.
