Reynolds Professor of Art Emeritus Terisio Pignatti passes away
Reynolds Professor of Art Emeritus Terisio Pignatti passed away on December 31, 2004, near Venice, Italy. Pignatti was one of the world’s foremost authorities on Venetian Art and had published more than fifty books.  He taught art history at Casa Artom from 1971 until 2000.  “It’s really the passing of an era,” said Peter Kairoff, professor of music and coordinator of the WFU Venice Program.  “Generations of students learned to love Venetian art by seeing it through his eyes.  And when they went to do research for their papers, they soon discovered that virtually all the books on the subject were by Dr. Pignatti himself!”  An article on Pignatti was published in the January 6, 2005, issue of the Winston-Salem Journal. ATHLETICS

| Athletics Image |January means ACC basketball
January means ACC basketball. The nationally ranked men’s team plays at home just three times in January, but all three are key conference games. The Deacons host nationally ranked Maryland (1/11) and arch-rival North Carolina (1/15) before hitting the road for three straight road games. WFU closes out the month with a home game (1/29) against Miami, and the late Marvin “Skeeter” Francis will be honored at halftime. The surprising Demon Deacon women’s team plays four home games in January, all at Lawrence Joel Coliseum, and their opponents include Virginia (1/6), Savannah State (1/10), Duke (1/19), and Clemson (1/23). Coach Mike Peterson’s team, which won ten of its first eleven games, has been one of the biggest stories in the ACC this winter. Indoor track is also in action in January, with meets from Massachusetts to Indiana. The first Deacon spring sports in action are men’s tennis, which hosts the ACC Indoor Championships beginning January 14th, and women’s tennis, with home matches on January 22nd and January 23rd.
