David Brooks announced as commencement speaker; registration available online
David Brooks, a columnist for The New York Times and a regular analyst on the "NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" and National Public Radio's "All Things Considered," will deliver the commencement address on May 21. The Rev. J. Bryan Hehir, a Catholic priest and the Parker Gilbert Montgomery Professor of the Practice of Religion and Public Life at Harvard University, will deliver the baccalaureate address on May 20. Ed Christman to receive Medallion of Merit; Hotel Rwanda hero to speak February 22
Former chaplain Ed Christman '50, JD '53 will be awarded the Medallion of Merit on Thursday, February 22 in Wait Chapel as part of Founders' Day Convocation at 11:00 a.m. The Medallion of Merit is the University's highest award for service to Wake Forest. The speaker at Convocation will be Paul Rusesabagina, the real life hero of Hotel Rwanda, who will speak about "Hotel Rwanda: A Lesson Yet to Be Learned." The event is free and open to the public. Wake Forest ranks 7th in Peace Corps volunteers
Wake Forest has moved up four spots to number seven on the Peace Corps' list of small colleges and universities with the most Peace Corps volunteers. Wake Forest currently has 21 graduates serving as Peace Corps volunteers. Since the Peace Corps was founded, 174 Wake Forest alumni have served as volunteers. Details | Top

Gatewood wins international award for entrepreneurship research
Betsy Gatewood, director of the Office of Entrepreneurship and Liberal Arts, and four research partners, are winners of the 2007 FSF-NUTEK Award, a prestigious international award given annually in recognition of outstanding entrepreneurship and small business research. Gatewood and her colleagues will receive and share the $50,000 award May 21 during a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden. Details | Top
Greek artifacts on display at Anthropology Museum
The Museum of Anthropology opened "Chaeronia 6000 Years BC," an exhibit highlighting the University of Colorado Museum's archaeological findings from the site of an early Greek community on February 6. Chaeronia (pronounced "hair-o-ne-a") was a simple Greek community that once thrived on the banks of the Kephisos River. In 338 BC, Chaeronia became the site where Phillip of Macedon defeated an alliance of Greek city states. Later, it was known as the birthplace of the famous writer Plutarch. Details | Top

Schedule for "Voices of Our Time" and "For Whose Humanity?" events
The "Voices of Our Time" speaker series continues this spring. It brings distinguished scientists, writers, business experts, activists, politicians and ministers to campus to discuss issues relevant to current events. Wake Forest is also hosting "For Whose Humanity?," a film and speaker series featuring four renowned speakers whose work has raised questions and issues regarding how we serve humanity. Hunt film to be screened February 19
In an effort to raise the awareness of students and the community at large about injustice and promote racial healing, Wake Forest will host a screening of the documentary film, "The Trials of Darryl Hunt," at 7 p.m. February 19 in Wait Chapel. The film, which premiered at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival, has only been screened once for the public in Winston-Salem. Tickets for the screening are free for Wake Forest students with valid ID. Gallery talks at Reynolda House; Reynolda After Hours
Gallery talks at Reynolda House are held Tuesdays from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. (admission is $5; cash bar reception follows). On February 20, playwright Angus MacLachlan, who wrote the screenplay for Junebug, a 2005 independent feature directed by Winston-Salem native Phil Morrison, which earned universal critical acclaim including an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress. On February 27, Reynolda House Assistant Curator Allison Slaby will relate Grandma Moses to American art in the 1940s and '50s, including Abstract Expressionism and Regionalism.
Reynolda After Hours is a new series of events at Reynolda House geared toward people in their 20s-to-40s in the Triad. Reynolda After Hours promotes interest in Reynolda House by providing social and networking opportunities through cultural and educational programming. Jazz concert to benefit WFU volunteer efforts in Benin
World-renowned jazz musician Lisa Henry will perform at a benefit concert at 6:30 p.m., February 17 in Wait Chapel. The concert will kick off fundraising efforts to build a children's center for art and music in Benin, West Africa. Babcock School: Career management event connects alumni, students in Atlanta
The Career Management Center brought together students and alumni in a new initiative focused on the job search process. At an evening reception in Atlanta on January 25, fifteen Babcock alumni met with thirteen MBA students and four prospective students. The alumni discussed their work roles in a setting that encouraged personal interaction. Based on the success of the Atlanta event, the CMC plans to hold similar events with alumni in other cities throughout the country. Details | Top
Calloway School: Accounting team earns top 5 position in national competition
A team of five students from the Calloway School was named one of the five national winning teams in the PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) 4th Annual xTREME Accounting (xACT) Case Competition. The competition is a prestigious annual event that recognizes students' accounting and auditing skills. Teams from 45 of the top accountancy programs in the nation were invited to compete in this year's competition. Details | Top

Distinguished women's voices from across the nation will speak at this year's Trible Lecture Series. Graduate School: Master Teacher Fellows work with local high schools
Twenty-two Master Teacher Fellows specializing in Secondary Education participated in the new Education department's January Seminars program. This new program helps prepare students for actual classroom teaching. Medical School: Scientists discover new, readily available source of stem cells
The Institute for Regenerative Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine has reported another major scientific success and brought international attention to Wake Forest – this time for the discovery of a new source of stems cells being used to create muscle, bone, fat, blood vessel, nerve and liver cells in the laboratory. Spring sports schedule
As basketball season hits the home stretch, Wake Forest's spring sports -- including the nationally-ranked men's and women's golf teams, men's and women's tennis teams and baseball team, jump into action this month. The women's basketball team hosts Duke (2/11), Boston College (2/18) and Florida State (2/25). The men's basketball team will entertain Clemson (2/14) and Miami (2/17). Men's tennis has home matches with VCU (2/9), Minnesota and East Tennessee State (2/11), Louisville (2/24) and Pepperdine (2/25). Women's tennis is on the road the rest of the month, but hosts a key ACC match March 1 vs. North Carolina. The Demon Deacon baseball team kicks off their season Feb. 16 vs. Kent State in the first of five February home games. Details on all Wake Forest sports | Top
