Mark Warner to deliver Commencement address
Former Virginia Governor Mark Warner will deliver the 2006 commencement speech at 9 a.m. May 15 on the University's Hearn Plaza (Quad). The Rev. Barbara Brown Taylor, a religion professor at Piedmont College in Georgia, will deliver the baccalaureate address at 11 a.m. May 14 in Wait Chapel. The commencement and baccalaureate ceremonies are not open to the general public.

Melson to step down as dean of the Graduate School
Gordon A. Melson, who has led the development of several new graduate programs in the biomedical sciences and other areas, will step down June 30 after 15 years as dean of the University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. During Melson's tenure, new graduate programs created include those in molecular genetics, biomedical engineering, cancer biology, health sciences research, accountancy, and molecular medicine.

Suttenfield named senior vice president and chief financial officer
Nancy D. Suttenfield has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer (CFO) at Wake Forest. She will assume her new role August 1 and will be responsible for the financial affairs and resource management of Wake Forest's Reynolda Campus. Suttenfield will work in close collaboration with the University's leadership to develop financial strategies to advance the academic mission.

New Masters of Arts in Management degree approved
The Wake Forest University Board of Trustees have approved a new Master of Arts in management degree program that will be offered starting this summer in the university's Babcock Graduate School of Management. Designed for college graduates who were liberal arts and sciences majors, the program introduces students to the fundamentals of business and management. In addition, the Board has announced the budget and the appointment of new and returning members of the Board of Trustees.

Lundeen ('07) named Truman Scholar
Elizabeth Lundeen ('07) is among a distinguished group of undergraduate students nationwide who have been named 2006 Truman Scholars by the Washington-based Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation. Lundeen is one of 75 students from 63 colleges and universities named Truman Scholars. | Top
Students organize art auction to fight poverty
Students Working Against Poverty (SWAP), a new organization formed by Wake Forest University students, and two Wake Forest art students, Bailey Reue and Sarah Foley, will raise funds for the hungry at START (Student Art), an art auction at 7 p.m. April 7 at the Downtown Arts District Association Community Center during Winston-Salem's Gallery Hop.

Calloway students rank first in CPA exam
Graduates of the Calloway School of Business and Accountancy rank first in the nation for their performance on the 2004 Certified Public Accountant (CPA) exam, the most recent scores available from the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA).

Debate students place second at National Debate Tournament
A Wake Forest debate team placed second in the nation at the 60th National Debate Tournament held March 24 – 27 at Northwestern University. This marks the second time Wake Forest has reached the finals for the national championship. The university won the national title at the tournament in 1997.

Register for Bill Leonard's "Signs of the Times: Contemporary American Religion in Historical Perspective" – June 15-16
The Wake Forest Alumni Association is sponsoring a new pilot program of educational opportunities for Wake Foresters. The first on-campus Lifelong Learning program will be held June 15-16, 2006. "Signs of the Times: Contemporary American Religion in Historical Perspective" will be led by Bill Leonard, Dean of the Divinity School. Sign up for the Alumni Admissions Forum – June 16
Do you have high school aged children? If so, you will want to sign up for the Alumni Admissions Forum on June 16th. The forum is open to all high school students but is particularly appropriate for rising high school sophomores and juniors. The day is a blend of general information as well as Wake Forest specific information, which is provided via the optional session in the morning.

Anthropology camp offered
This summer, children can travel off the beaten path and explore "The Many Faces of China" at the Museum of Anthropology's summer camp. Camps meet the weeks of June 12, 19 and 26. Campers will learn about the history and culture of Chinese minority groups.

Babcock School: Entrepreneurial work earns national top-tier ranking
A fourth-annual ranking of entrepreneurship programs has placed Wake Forest and the Babcock School among 13 top-tier national colleges and universities. The survey of nearly 800 colleges and universities was conducted by TechKnowledge Point Corp. Results were published this year by Entrepoint.com after being published in Entrepreneur magazine the past three years.

Calloway School: R.J. Reynolds CEO speaks at business honor society banquet
Susan M. Ivey, chairman and CEO of Reynolds American Inc. and of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, spoke at the Beta Gamma Sigma business honor society banquet on Wednesday, March 22. Divinity School: Scholarship to aid women interested in ministry
Richard Gene Puckett and Robbie Lynn Puckett of Raleigh have established the Thomas Meredith Divinity Scholarship Fund in the Divinity School to support women entering the ministry and to honor an early leader among Baptists in North Carolina. The scholarship honors Thomas Meredith, one of the 14 founders in 1830 of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina.

Graduate School: Alumnus wins Pollin Prize for Pediatric Research
Eric N. Olson (Ph.D. '81) recently won the 2005 Pollin Prize for Pediatric Research with Dr. Abraham M. Rudolph. Dr. Olson is the Robert A. Welch Distinguished Chair of the Department of Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Drs. Olson and Rudolph were honored for their pioneering work in fetal and neonatal cardiology. The Pollin Prize is the sole international award for advances in children's health care. | Top
Law School: I. Beverly Lake, Jr. ('55, JD'60) awarded for service
I. Beverly Lake, Jr. ('55, JD '60), former Chief Justice of the NC Supreme Court, was honored by the law school with the Distinguished Alumni Award for Outstanding Service to the Legal Profession and to the State of North Carolina. The Wake Forest Alumni Association also presented him with the University's Distinguished Alumni Award. Details:

Athletics: April a busy month for Deacons
The ACC Track and Field Championships will be held at Kentner Stadium (4/20-22). The nationally-ranked baseball team hosts UNC-Greensboro (4/12), Davidson (4/18) and Maryland (4/21-23). The 14th-ranked men's golf team plays in the ACC Championships (4/21-23) at the Old North State Club. The men's tennis team is at home (4/9) before playing in the ACC Tournament (4/20-23). The women's golf team will play in the ACC Championships (4/14-16) in Pinehurst. The women's team plays in the ACC Tournament (4/20-23). For details on all other Wake Forest sports:
