President
President Nathan O. Hatch, formerly provost and Andrew V. Tackes Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame, became president of Wake Forest on July 1, 2005.
As chief executive of the University, he has spearheaded comprehensive strategic planning efforts and strengthened Wake Forest's distinctive commitments to the teacher-scholar model and the education of the whole person.
Interim Provost
Mark Welker was named Interim Provost on July 1, 2011. A nation-wide search for the provost position is underway. Welker was appointed vice provost in 2010 and had previously served as an associate provost since 2003. He holds joint academic appointments in the departments of biochemistry and cancer biology and the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. Welker received a B.S. with highest honors in chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Ph.D. in chemistry from Florida State University.
