ABSTRACT

It has been 40 years since Kauffman first suggested that random networks of Boolean logic gates might tell us something about gene expression dynamics in cells. The hypothesis that cell types are dynamical attractors has opened interesting research questions in systems biology and in the physics of complex systems. I will review the key ideas in the overlap between these fields and describe some recent results on the relation between continuous systems and their Boolean idealizations.
