TITLE: "Constructing Astrophysical Black-Hole Binaries on a Computer"

SPEAKER: Professor Greg Cook,

Department of Physics
Wake Forest University

TIME: Thursday Dec. 6, 2001 at 4 PM

PLACE: George P. Williams, Jr. Lecture Hall, (Olin 101)

Refreshments will be served at 3:30 PM in the lounge. All interested persons are cordially invited to attend.

ABSTRACT

Just what is involved in modeling a black hole on a computer? We will take a very basic look at how this works, and what has been done so far. Then I will tell you about some work I have been doing since this summer to improve the modeling of "quasi-equilibrium" black hole binaries. That is, two black holes in a nearly circular orbit.
