WebAssign (www.webassign.net/info) is a web-based homework system which we developed at North Carolina State University starting in 1997. For the past two years, it has allowed us to easily grade a few million introductory physics homework assignments, pre-labs, and essays. We are currently supporting over two dozen physics textbooks, with at least that many in chemistry, math, biology, and engineering. I will detail the underlying design considerations in creating this program and show several dozen applications of this in support of Physics Education, Research, and Pedagogy across a wide range of courses. WebAssign is also used widely in support of "Just-in-Time-Teaching." I've been teaching with similar systems for many years now and will share from my experiences. The delivery and grading mechanisms will be described and many examples given of integrating other web-technologies with WebAssign to keep students on task and learning!
