Eric Peterson awarded NSF Graduate Research Fellowship

Eric Peterson, a graduate student working with Professor David Carroll, has been awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship.

The award carries a $90,000 stipend, distributed over three years. Eric's research focuses on using inorganic nanoparticles and rods to enhance the performance of organic solar cells. His work involves the use of metallic nanorods as optical antenna to enhance absorption in thin film polymer photovoltaics. Eric is also focusing on the use of semiconducting nanoparticle composites as acceptors in bulk heterojunction organic solar cells in an effort to broaden the absorption spectrum of those devices.
