Archimedes' Principle

PIRA 2B40.20

Image:

Description:

A small steel bucket has a cylinder that just fits inside it. The bucket, with the cylinder inside it, is suspended from a scale and wieghed. Then the cylinder is removed and hung below the bucket on the scale so it is just covered with water in a beaker. Water is removed from the beaker until the weight on the scale returns to its original value. The water collected is then placed in the bucket to show that it takes up the same volume as the cylinder.
