Allin F. Cottrell

Allin Cottrell was born and raised in Scotland. He earned a B.A. in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from Oxford University (Merton College), and the Ph.D. from the University of Edinburgh. He moved to the U.S.A. in 1983, and taught at UNC-Chapel Hill and Elon College before coming to Wake Forest in 1989. He mostly teaches macroeconomics and econometrics. His research interests include the history of economic thought (Marx and Keynes in particular), issues in macroeconomics, and the theory of economic planning. Also, at a bit of a tangent, the philosophy of mind. He has published two books, Social Classes in Marxist Theory (1984) and Towards a New Socialism (1993), as well as numerous articles. Outside of the classroom and the library, Allin is a keen guitarist (blues and fiddle-band music) and computer nerd.
