Undergraduate Education
Which Chemistry Course Should I Take First? Students who earn a 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement exam will be awarded credit for CHM 111, General Chemistry. Such students may take CHM 122, Organic Chemistry, in the Fall. This course is open only to students presenting a 4 or 5 on the AP exam. Another option is to participate in an active research group in the department during the Fall semester. Students who do not receive AP credit for chm111, but who feel they have a strong chemistry background (with at least one year of high school chemistry), are encouraged to take the American Chemical Society general chemistry exam, offered during orientation. It is a 2 hour multiple choice exam that tests concepts taught during the first year of college-level general chemistry. A high score on this exam will result in credit for CHM 111/CHM 111-L. |
