Wake
Forest University Art Collections consist mainly of American
prints and paintings, with a growing presence of sculpture
and photography. There are over 1300 works of art in nine
separate and different collections acquired by different
individuals
under differing circumstances. They are a combination of
commemorative portraits, gifts and bequests, and systematic
collecting.
The guiding principle upon which the University
collections are based is two-fold, education and preservation. That is, to make
them accessible to the broadest
segment of the University community, other universities, and the general public,
and to care for and preserve them in a secure environment.
A valuable and irreplaceable cultural asset, they provide an excellent visual
arts environment and teaching resource supporting the University’s educational
mission of preparing “men and women for personal enrichment, enlightened
citizenship, and professional life.”
