Questions

According to our records, you are scheduled to exchange the ThinkPad that you are currently using for a new computer this summer. Learn more about the T61 ThinkPad.

Overview
The exchange process for faculty members selecting the T61 will take place by appointment from late June through early August. Here is a detailed schedule of exchange and training dates. So that Information Systems can transfer the Userdata folder to the new machine, faculty will drop off the old machine one day before receiving the new machine.

Once you have made an appointment for exchanging computers, the process for exchanging computers is quite simple:

  • Information Systems staff will transfer files in your Userdata folder to the new ThinkPad. Protect your data by working with your instructional technology professional to make a safety copy of your data before returning the old computer. Your instructional technology professional can also assist in reloading your programs after receiving the new computer. As a reminder, you are responsible for regular backups of your data.Due to time constraints, Information Systems staff will not transfer any programs you have installed or data that has been stored outside of the Userdata folder.
  • Bring the old ThinkPad to the Information Systems Building, Room 271, between 8:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on your scheduled return date to ensure adequate time for transferring data to the new machine.
  • Come to the Information Systems Building, Room 262, at 9:15 a.m. if your scheduled distribution day is Wednesday or Friday. If your scheduled distribution day is Thursday, come to the Information Systems Building, Room 262, at 1:15 p.m. After signing for the new ThinkPad, you may attend the orientation session that will begin at approximately 15 minutes after distribution.

Scheduling your appointment
Please call the Information Systems Service Desk at 758-HELP to schedule your appointment on one of the available dates. Because Information Systems can process only 20 exchanges each day, we encourage you to call early to reserve your preferred exchange date.

Learning to use the new ThinkPad
The orientation class following distribution of your new computer will be composed of two sessions, each lasting approximately one hour. The first hour will cover the new hardware features on the T61 ThinkPad as well as introducing users to the completely new look and feel of Microsoft Office 2007. The second hour will include an overview of Microsoft OneNote, a tool for note taking, information gathering, and multi-user collaboration.

Scheduling Conflicts or Questions?
If you have conflicts with the scheduled distribution times or have questions concerning this process, please contact the Service Desk at 758-HELP (x4357) or help@wfu.edu to schedule an alternative appointment.
