Making some reasonable assumptions, we derive an expression for the 
ground state energy of a one-dimensional Hubbard ring in the atomic limit, 
valid for systems of finite size. In doing so, we show that a 
straightforward solution to equations derived by Lieb and Wu 
does not obtain the expected ground state energy in this limit.
